You may have seen a mosaic picture before of a movie poster. The most common ones I've seen are of a Star Wars character made up of small pictures that are sceens from the movie.
I began making custom mosaics when our first daughter turned 1 year old! We used the pictures from her first year to make her 1-year portrait. Things started progressing from there. Soon I was making mosaics for graduations, weddings, anniversaries and more.
We adopted our second daughter from China in 2005. Once we got back and settled in I thought a mosaic would be a unique way to display our trip pictures. Our paper work to adopt another angel from China was logged in March 2007. I had hoped to offer custom mosaics to other families as a fundraiser as we got closer to traveling to China to complete this adoption. Obviously, things in China have slowed WAY DOWN!
However, this past summer gave our family an unexpected surprise. Some friends of ours hosted sisters from Latvia. My family spent several weeks with the girls and we realized they were going to be part of our family. We began the process for their adoption in mid July 2009. This process is much faster than China and we hope to make our first trip in the next few months.

Needless to say, our fundraising efforts are kicking into full gear!
The best size mosaic is 16 x 20 inches. This will allow you to clearly see the smaller pictures that make up the main picture. Your mosaic can be made from any number of smaller pictures from 20 to 2000. There will be about 2000 little pictures in the mosaic. The more pictures you have, the less they will repeat. You can send my your favorite pictures on a CD or you can send your pictures for me to scan in (for an added charge) or a combination of both.
Below is an example of a common mosaic. I had to greatly reduce the resolution so it would load quickly on this site. If you would like, I can forward you a full scale example by email.
